It is both an honor and a privilege to begin my term as President of ‘Association of Environmental Horticulture’. As President, I am very excited about the work and prospects of the association. As an organization we have created strong presence across the country and in such short span of our journey we are among the most active nurseries association in India.
Association of Environmental Horticulture was started by few progressive nursery owners nearly fifteen years ago in Pune, Maharashtra. Our association is also fondly referred by the name of Maharashtra Nurserymen Association. We have achieved many policy objectives in the past and will continue to do so.
Environmental Horticulture is now a very important business sector in India. With over 300 million population of middle and higher income group against nearly 1.2 billion population, India is the world’s 2nd largest consumer base and fastest growing retail destination for the environmental horticulture. India, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan along with other countries of the region make South Asia, the world’s largest market and India is emerging as world’s fastest growing flower and gardening market. India is poised to become the top horticulture trading center in this part of globe. Imports of flowers, seeds, bulbs, planting materials, greenhouse technologies and gardening related tools, accessories and equipment from all over the world are increasing every year because industry professionals in India are looking for new products, techniques and devices that are highly effective and cost-efficient for upgrading of knowledge and their business. On the other side the plants are the most important factor that negate the effect of pollution. They absorb pollutants and provide us with a life sustaining environment. One should never underestimate the role of plants in our life.
Our Association is headed by a very capable and dynamic team. We strive to help and nurture more and more nurseries to join our efforts to make our association strong and value oriented. Member participation is the key for development of any association.
We also organize study tours both national and international for our members where they have a chance to interact with other nursery men and know more about the commercial and cultivation practices they follow, which further helps them to be improvise and be more progressive in the work they do at their nurseries. Technical enhancement and foreign collaboration boost our strength to next levels.
I want to thank all of our members who have given their time and energy to support. This is a member driven organization and the participation of our members has always given the organization extraordinary strength.
